Swiss Design Architect Tour

RK Interiors joined the Swiss Design Architect Tour, visiting USM's modular designs, Horgenglarus' craftsmanship, and Vitra’s innovative furniture. We tested the new Vitra chair by Barber & Osgerby and found it highly comfortable.

At the end of May, RK Interiors participated in the “Swiss Design Architect Tour” organized by Batiplus, bringing together architects from all over Switzerland. This journey lasted 2 days and started with a visit to USM.

Day 1: Discovering the timeless elegance of USM.

The entire team of architects met early in Puidoux and we arrived at USM. The day began with a tour of the USM owner's house, built in 1961 by Paul Schärer and architect Fritz Haller. This home showcases the modular design principles that later defined USM's Haller system.

Next was a tour of the USM factory, where we saw the precision and craftsmanship behind the iconic USM Haller furniture. Known for its sleek steel tubes and chrome beads, the system offers endless customization. We ended the visit with lunch at the USM pavilion, reflecting on the brand's legacy of quality and innovation.

Revealing Horgenglarus' craftsmanship:

The tour continued with a visit to Horgenglarus, the oldest chair and table manufacturer in Switzerland, founded in 1880.

Day 2: Exploring the visionary world of Vitra

The next morning we took a tour of the Horgenglarus factory, observing the meticulous craftsmanship behind their chairs and tables. Each piece is a testament to Swiss precision and quality. After this enlightening visit, we set off for our final destination, enriched by our understanding of Horgenglarus craftsmanship.

The last stop on our tour was Vitra in Weil am Rhein, Germany, known for its innovative furniture designs.

At Vitra, we took a tour of the Vitra Campus, including the Vitra Design Museum and the company headquarters. The campus features buildings by renowned architects such as Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid.

We explored the Vitra Design Museum, which showcases influential modern furniture designs. Exhibitions highlighted collaborations with designers such as Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson. This tour concluded with a visit to Vitra's production facilities, where we saw first-hand their commitment to innovation and quality.

The Swiss Design Architect Tour offered a deep dive into the heritage and innovation of USM, Horgenglarus and Vitra, reaffirming their importance in the world of design.
